Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Cyber Law Institute collects through cyberlawinstitute.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Effective date: November 2, 2026

Who we are

Cyber Law Institute is an online publication about digital consumer rights, available at cyberlawinstitute.com. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Cyber Law Institute. You can reach us at contact@cyberlawinstitute.com.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Newsletter signup. Your email address, when you subscribe to The Cyber Law Brief.
  • Tips. When you use our Submit a Tip form: your email address, your name if you choose to give it, the topic, your message, and any link you include.
  • Emails. Anything you send to us by email.

Please don’t send us Social Security numbers, account numbers, passwords, ID documents, or other sensitive personal information. We don’t need it.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which can include your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. These are used to run and secure the site. Our forms may also record technical details, such as your IP address, with a submission to help prevent spam.

We do not use analytics tools, advertising networks, or tracking pixels, and we do not set advertising or tracking cookies.

Cookies

Visitors who simply read the site do not receive tracking cookies from us. WordPress, the software that runs this site, sets cookies only for people who log in to manage the site.

Some articles may include content embedded from other websites, such as videos or documents. That content behaves as if you had visited the other website, which may collect data about you or use cookies under its own privacy policy.

How we use your information

  • To send the newsletter you signed up for.
  • To review tips and, if needed, contact you with follow-up questions.
  • To reply to messages you send us.
  • To operate, maintain, and protect the website.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Tips and confidentiality

We don’t publish the name or contact details of anyone who sends us a tip without their permission.

Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as needed for that purpose:

  • Website hosting: GoDaddy hosts the site and its database, where form submissions are stored.
  • Email newsletter: Kit stores subscriber email addresses and sends the newsletter on our behalf.
  • Email: form submissions are also sent to our contact email inbox.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of our readers, the site, or others.

How long we keep information

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your email address.
  • Tips and messages: only as long as we need them to review and follow up, after which we delete them.
  • Server logs: according to our hosting provider’s standard retention.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any issue.
  • Ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, by emailing contact@cyberlawinstitute.com.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under your state’s law. Contact us to make a request, and we’ll respond as the law requires.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. No website or email system is completely secure, which is one more reason not to send us sensitive personal details.

Links to other websites

Our articles link to government agencies, courts, companies, and other publications. Their privacy practices are their own, so please review their policies.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we collect or use information, for example by adding analytics, we will update this policy and its effective date before the change takes effect.
