About Cyber Law Institute

Cyber Law Institute is an online publication about digital consumer rights. We report on data breaches, scams and online fraud, privacy rights, identity theft, and the lawsuits and settlements that follow them, and we explain what those developments mean for the people affected.

What we cover

  • Data breaches: what a breach notice says, how to check that it is genuine, and what information was involved.
  • Scams and fraud: payment disputes, account takeovers, invoice fraud, and impersonation.
  • Privacy rights: data broker removal, deletion requests, and how personal information is collected and shared.
  • Identity theft: accounts opened in your name, credit freezes and fraud alerts, and organizing evidence for a dispute.
  • Lawsuits and settlements: verified case developments, claim deadlines, and payment status.

What “Institute” means

Cyber Law Institute is the name of our publication. We use “Institute” to describe our focus: researching and explaining digital consumer rights in plain language.

Cyber Law Institute is not a university, school, or academic body. It is not accredited, it is not a nonprofit organization, and it does not offer courses, degrees, or certifications.

What we are not

Cyber Law Institute is not a law firm, and our articles are not legal advice. Reading our content or contacting us does not create an attorney-client relationship. Laws and procedures vary by state and change over time, so for advice about your specific situation, speak with a licensed attorney in your state.

Our articles are not reviewed by attorneys unless a named reviewer is shown on the article.

How we work

We build our reporting on primary sources: official breach notices, regulator filings, court records, and government guidance. We link to those sources so you can read them yourself. When we make a mistake, we correct it openly.

Who publishes Cyber Law Institute

Cyber Law Institute is the publisher of this site. Articles are published under the Cyber Law Institute byline.
